Posted by Danielle

In exactly two weeks time London as we know it will be full of people celebrating the Royal Wedding. Crowds will have waited hours to catch a glimpse of the future King and Queen of England as they travel the route from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace for the kiss on the balcony.

The Goring Hotel is one of London’s most prestigious 5 star hotels that has recently undergone a £150,000 refurbishment ahead of the big day. The 5 room suite Kate is expected to spend the night before her marriage to Prince William will be oozing with character for the nervous bride to be.

People are commemorating the day by buying tea towels, mug, plates and even knitting the Royal Wedding! Not to mention the hundreds of parties that have been planned to celebrate the day in style. One lucky person even found the face of Kate Middleton in a Jelly Bean!!

Summer Holiday’s choices

As we are now officially in spring it is the time when most of us start to plan when and where we will be going on holiday. One of the biggest problems everyone comes up against is do we choose all inclusive or self catering, packages or a do it yourself approach, flights, ferry or a Eurostar Break, Europe or further away? There is so much to think about and so little time!!

Flights

Personally I prefer to choose my own flights. It means I can fly when I want and I can choose to avoid the massive cues at the airport. Early morning flights are ideal as it means I can travel down after work spend a night in one of the airport hotels before flying out and arriving to my destination feeling refreshed and I haven’t had to rush.  :)

Hotels

One of the advantages to planning your own holiday is choosing every single detail; you are in control of where you stay and how long you stay there. There are so many hotel offers to choose from with so many different star ratings at least this way you have the option to tailor make your holiday to your requirements.

Money

Budgeting can be a massive issue when you go away; there is so much to take into consideration such as food, drinks, gifts and excursions. Which is why deciding between all inclusive and other board basis or going totally self catering is a tough call. Looking around before you travel for the best exchange rate is crucial to make sure you get the most out of your holiday money and you can enjoy yourself with out worrying.

FUN!

After you have made all your decisions on where to go, how to get there and how long for, packed your suitcase and changed your money the only other thing to do is enjoy your holiday!

How do you choose your perfect summer holiday?

Comic relief 2011

Posted by Danielle

The best of British comedy will be coming together on March 18th for Red Nose Day helping to raise money for charities involved in comic relief.  People across the UK are gearing up to raise money throughout the day and are planning to do something funny for money.

Britain’s Got Talent duo Ant and Dec have been gate crashing as many TV and Radio shows as they can to raise money, popping up on 10 different TV shows and 23 radio shows in one day! DJ Chris Moyles is also trying his hand at making some money and is attempting to break the record for the longest radio show ever at 51 and a half hours. He has been joined by a number of celeb friends including Lily Allen and Davina McCall and at just over the halfway point he is well on his way to smashing his target of £100,000.

As normal the evening’s entertainment will bring a host of special guest stars including a selection of TV specials. Dr Who will be taking a Red Nose Day trip in the TARDIS and some top British comedians will star in a parody of period drama Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs.

Here at Superbreak we have a red themed clothing day, a sweet and savoury snack stall and lots of other fun and games throughout the day. How are you raising money for Comic Relief?

Festivals announce line up 2011

Posted by Danielle

T in the Park, V and Glastonbury are among the first festivals to announce their line up for the 2011 summer of music and I am very excited! Between them they have welcomed some of the biggest names in music, the likes of Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Blink 182 and Kings of Leon to name just a few are some of the stand out performances of the last few years in festival history.

This year Glastonbury is looking forward to welcoming Beyonce and U2 to the main stage. Last year U2 were forced to pull out at the last minute and were replaced by Muse, but as not to disappoint Muse were joined on stage by U2’s guitarist Edge who can’t wait to get back onto the main stage this year. Elbow have also hinted at a possible main stage Glastonbury appearance but as of yet this hasn’t been confirmed.

V so far is looking to have one of the summers biggest events and performers as Eminem was confirmed as a head line act. Since his amazing appearance last year at T in the Park Eminem has played some enormous shows following the release of his newest album Relapse. Rihanna and N-Dubz are also down to appear at V which so far has a huge line up.

After selling out in under an hour last week T in the Park has announced Foo Fighters and Artic Monkeys into their mix, while Leeds and Reading will announce their acts on the 21st of March the same days that their tickets go on sale.

What do you think about this year’s festival line up?

A Royal treat!

Posted Danielle

In the midst of a whirlwind couple of weeks for both Prince William and Kate Middleton, they have finally announced the date that the nation has been waiting for. It was tipped that bookies had suspended betting for April yesterday as rumours flew for a wedding on the 28th or 29th of April.

The date for the wedding of the century is finally set for the 29th of April 2011 and will take place in Westminster Abbey. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flock to the capital to line the streets in celebration for this momentous occasion. But despite this huge announcement only just being made, demand for hotels in London is incredible!

It was confirmed that the royal wedding will be a public holiday (yey!) allowing as many people as possible to be able to join in the celebrations. Directly following the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, the wedding will create another 4 day weekend for the British public and a 3 day working week (double yey!). Many pubs and clubs are already confirming celebration events to be held throughout the city on this double bank holiday weekend.

So as the date draws closer and the collectable crockery and tea towels go on sale outside Buckingham Palace, expect to see the wheels in motion for plenty of good old fashioned street parties.

What have you got planned for this double bank holiday weekend?

Christmas escapes

Posted by Danielle

As soon as you hear the faint sound of the bells and see the big red trucks carrying a whole load of Coca Cola you know it’s almost Christmas! With less than 5 weeks remaining until the most exciting time of the year there is still so much I want to cram into 2010, especially before the New Years Resolutions kick in. So if escaping for a few days before the run up to Christmas sounds like a good plan then you might want to hunt out some winter warmers!

From October to January Norway is an ideal place to catch up with some extreme nature. Pods of killer whales make their way to Tysfjord to hunt down the migrating herrings. Even though this is slightly out of the way surely it’s worth the travel for an opportunity of a life time.

But if being able to swim or kayak with the whales leaves you reaching out for a hot chocolate how about soaking up some of the summer sunshine in Sydney, Australia? Escape the after Christmas blues and top up your tan while taking part in the Sydney Harbour New Year’s Eve party. Sip a chilled beer in the warm summer nights with the locals and enjoy fireworks over the Opera House.

If neither of those make the long winter season seem a little bit more exciting how about hand delivering your letter to Santa? Heading to Finland before making the trip to Lapland and presenting your letter surely will win you some brownie points in the good Vs bad category?

I know what’s going in my letter to Santa, what about you?

Slope off this winter…

Ski season – the perfect excuse to slope off and indulge in a well-earned break this winter.

And whether you’re bored with Courchevel of Klosters, prefer the après-ski to the snowy slopes or are left feeling a little cold by the idea of heading for chillier climes, don’t worry – I’ve an unusual alternative or two up my woolly winter sleeves that’ll have you taking-off quicker than a ski-lift.

Skate:

If (like me!) you struggle to stay up-right on a set of skis, ice skating could be your best baby-step forward this ski season. And with open-air skating rinks appearing by London’s iconic landmarks, there’s never been a better time to get your skates on!

Whether you’d like to speed across the rink or tentatively find your way across the ice, you’ll be able to choose from rinks by canary wharf, the London Eye, the Natural History museum, the Tower of London and Somerset House.

And remember to check our London hotel offers before taking to the ice this winter!

Board:

If you’re bored of ski-ing, why not try snowboarding? And where better to get a taste of the après-ski night-life than Glasgow!

Hit the real indoor snow slopes at Glasgow’s Xscape centre before heading into the city centre for some winter warming drinks and Christmas shopping (in the best city shopping district outside of London!). Or, if you’re with the family, take the little ones to play in the snow and see Santa in his snow-side hut.

Don’t forget to check our Glasgow hotel offers if you’re planning a city break to ease your winter boredom.

Ski:

Even if you can’t tear yourself from the ski slopes, you could make the most of your ski holiday choosing somewhere sunny for a change.

Visit the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East -at Ski Dubai you can ski, board and toboggan before sunning yourself among the golden city’s glittering skyscrapers and golden beaches.

Why not look through our Dubai hotel offers before skiing off into the sun this winter.

Game, Set and Match…the 2010 ATP World Tour Reaches the Final!

Posted by Matt

After another stupendous year of tennis, that has seen Roger Federer equal the trophy tally of Pete Sampras and Andy Murray reach his second Grand Slam Final, we have finally arrived at the exhilarating ATP World Tour Finals in London!

Once again the top 8 tennis players in the world will battle it out at the O2 Arena with the aim of being crowned the Barclays ATP Tour Champion! From the 21st to the 26th November the tennis stars will compete in the exciting group stage matches leading to the semi-final knockout on the 27th and the grand finally on the 28th.

If last year is anything to go by this will be 8 days of fast paced, nonstop action, with an atmosphere unlike any other tennis competition in the world! But who will take the crown? After winning Wimbledon, the French Open, the US Open and a handful of other singles titles this year, Nadal is by far the favourite to lift the trophy at the ATP World Tour Final in London.

However, after Nikolay Davydenko stole the show at the O2 last year, surprising many by beating the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray to the title, who knows what will happen at this year’s event!

What do you think? Who’s your money on to win this year’s ATP World Tour Final?

Laugh off the cold with Lee Evans…

While I joke that I only need to look at my bank balance if I need a quick sarcastic chuckle, I’d much rather laugh off the cold and beat my winter blues by booking tickets to see funny-man Lee Evans.

Known for his energetic stage performances and quick wit, it’s no wonder the comedian has dubbed his new arena tour ‘Roadrunner’.

And even though his Roadrunner tour won’t see Lee take to the stage until September 2011, I’ll definitely be buying a few tickets with my next payday pennies – especially as his Big Tour in 2008 was one of the biggest (and funniest!) comedy tours of all time.

Lee once joked that he was as nervous as a nun awaiting the results of her pregnancy test before giving one of his trademark slapstick performances. But with over 500,000 people laughing along during his last tour – and 50 live shows scheduled throughout the UK for Roadrunner! – it looks as though the very popular comedian has got nothing to worry about.

Though we fans might have more reason to fret as tickets are likely to sell out, especially as they’ll make such good Christmas presents!

If you’d like to be laughing your way to see Lee Evans at London’s O2 arena next September, don’t forget to book with Superbreak.
